An Anti-BBOCS with equally bad plenary gender imbalance?

So back in November when I complained to Chemistry in Australia about the gender imbalance at the BBOCS conference I was unaware of exactly how the plenary speakers are chosen. Nothing I’ve learnt since my letter to the editor and my subsequent blog post has enlightened me as to which particular cadre of chemists in Melbourne picks them. Nothing seems to get disclosed anywhere in advance so we’ll just have to wait until first abstract calls in September to see whether the criticism has been taken on board.
Now I see that the Queensland branch of the RACI is organising its own biological chemistry conference in Brisbane getting the jump on the traditional BBOCS by a couple of months. Sadly however their advanced notice came out this week and they too are suffering from the no female plenary speaker malaise
